The History of The Water Purification Device

As long as there has been water, people have been trying to make it healthy and suitable for drinking. Let’s take a look at the history of the water purification device. In the beginning, water was fairly clean because there weren’t as many things to contaminate it as there is today. As industry grew, the amount of contaminates in the water increased as well. As time went by, the need for a method of purifying water became more pressing than ever.

History

People began trying to purify water as early as 2000 B.C. This was done by either boiling or placing hot objects into the water. This was the first step in the history of the water purification device. Hippocrates was the next one to contribute to the modern water purifier. He developed a cloth sleeve that boiled water could be poured through. The idea was to filter out the sediments that made their way into the water from the ground. This is somewhat similar to the methods we still use today.

This has led to today’s contributions to the history of the water purification device. Cities and municipalities have attempted to purify water by adding various chemicals to it. Unfortunately, these are often as harmful as the water was originally. These chemicals are usually what we are trying to remove when we use home water purifiers.

Hippocrates was instrumental in the history of the water purification device. The principals behind his device is what modern systems are based on today. The most common types of home water filtration systems consist of a filter made of activated charcoal particles. These systems are affordable and easy to install and use. Basically, the water goes through the unit and passes through the activated charcoal. These particles attract the sediment and contaminates and the clean water passes through to the other side. The filters will have to be replaced every so often as they become filled with contaminates.

There are several other systems available as well. Some use UV rays to purify the water as it passes by. There are also other types of filters that use the same basic principals as the activated charcoal. Some systems actually tie all of this technology together in one system.

Throughout the history of the water purification device, there have been many attempts to devise a convenient way to clean up drinking water. Todays systems are fairly effective, but they are not perfect. The industry is constantly advancing and new discoveries are being made all the time.
